Das Struwwelpeter-Manuskript. Originalgetreue Nachbildung der Urhandschrift mit einem Bericht von Dr. Heinrich Hoffmann und dessen Bildnis nebst einem Begleitwort von G.A.E. Bogeng HOFFMANN, Heinrich
02726 Rutten & Loning Frankfurt 1925 No. 186 of a limited edition of 550 copies. 14 coloured facsimile plates of the original manuscript and 1 portrait. The accompanying booklet has 25 pp. Orig. cloth in orig. slipcase. Slipcase rubbed along edges and lacking the top edge, repairs to bottom edge of slipcase, a few brown spots to binding. One of the plates (loosely inserted, as in all copies) is a facsimile of the first published edition, as the original manuscript page - as is explained in the booklet - had been lost. Very scarce limited facsimile edition of the original manuscript of the world-famous Struwwelpeter which inspired many imitations, so-called 'Stuwwelpetriaden'. The Struwwelpeter is made up of a handful of illustrated stories showing in a very drastic fashion what can happen to 'naughty' children. This includes a bully being bitten by a dog, a group of racist children inked black in a giant inkpot, a boy turning into a stick figure because he doesn't eat his soup, the Struwwelpeter itself, with long hair and nails, and most frightening for young children - and I speak from personal experience - a tailor cutting off a thumb-sucking boy's fingers. Rhle in his catalogue 'Bse Kinder' suggests that the original publishers produced this facsimile edition as the copyright had expired. The 'Struwwelpeter' had first been published in 1845, and by the 1890s had gone into over 150 editions. $300.00AUD Click here to order or message the dealer
